is the best way to achieve an accurate reading from my thermometer?
ALWAYS replace the disposable lens filters with a genuine Braun lens filter to maintain accuracy and hygiene. The use of any other brand may alter the reading.
The right ear measurement may differ from the measurement taken in the left ear. Therefore, ALWAYS take the temperature in the same ear. The ear must be free from obstructions or excess earwax build-up to take an accurate reading.
External factors may influence ear temperatures, including when an individual has:
In the cases below, wait 20 minutes prior to taking a temperature:
- Extreme hot and cold room temperature - Hearing aid - Use the untreated ear if ear drops or other ear medications have been placed in the ear canal.
Use the ear that has been facing upwards, if an individual has been lying down on their side with an ear face down on a pillow.
should I do if my thermometer is displaying an Err message?
This will occur if the ambient temperature is not within the allowed operating range (50 – 104 °F or 10 – 40 °C.) In order to resolve this, we would recommend you allow the thermometer to remain for 30 minutes in a room where the temperature is between 50 and 104 °F or 10 and 40 °C. If the issue continues, make sure the probe tip and lens are clean and a new, clean, disposable lens filter is attached. Make sure the thermometer is properly inserted. Then, take a new temperature. How do I
change the battery on my thermometer?
The battery door design is intended to prevent a small child from easily opening the battery door to address a possible choke hazard. Open the battery compartment by inserting a narrow-pointed object such as a ball point pen or paperclip into the small hole above the battery door. While pressing into the hole slowly slide back the battery door with the other hand. This thermometer requires one 3 Volt Lithium battery.
I view the last temperature taken on my thermometer?
Memory function is not available on the ThermoScan® 3.
I store my thermometer?
Store thermometer and lens filters in a dry location free from dust and contamination and away from direct sunlight. Always store the thermometer with the protective cap or with the cradle in place to prevent dirt and scratches from damaging the device.
Do not store this thermometer in temperature extremes below -13 °F or over 131 °F or in excessive humidity (above 95% relative humidity).
If thermometer is stored in a location that is cooler or warmer than where it will be used, allow it to acclimate to the room temperature for 10 minutes before taking the measurement.
I use the Braun Lens Filter?
To avoid inaccurate measurements ALWAYS use this thermometer with a new, clean lens filter attached.
If the thermometer is accidentally used without a lens filter attached, clean the lens.
The lens filter indicator will blink to signal one is needed.
Attach a new lens filter by pushing the thermometer probe straight into the lens filter inside the box and then pulling out.
Note: The Braun ThermoScan® will not work unless a lens filter is attached.
For the next measurement, press Eject button to remove and discard used lens filter, and put on a new, clean lens filter. For models without and eject button (ThermoScan® 3 and 4), pull off lens filter and discard.
